Klaus
Meier studied theology
with the master in 1975, has finished as candidate studies of paedagogics and
the studies of pharmacy in 1981 with the approbation from the ministry of
health in Kiel.
Work
1983 – 2000 - Senior Hospital Pharmacist in the
General Hospital of Hamburg-Harburg | 2001 – 2006 - Acting as General
Manager of all pharmacies in community hospitals in Hamburg, Germany (serving
nearly 6000 beds in general and with more than 40000 preparations for cancer
patients yearly) | 2006 – 2021 - Leading Pharmacist in the Department
for Clinical and Hospital Pharmacy in the Heidekreis-Klinikum GmbH in Soltau,
Lower Saxony.
Steps of activities and carrier
1988 - He implemented the centralised Cytotoxic service as
one of the first in Germany in the General Hospital of Hamburg-Harburg. The
benfits were high quality, safety for the employees for handling of cytotoxic
drugs, environmentally friendly waste management and the effectiveness and cost
saving of the preparations.
1989 - He became a Certified Clinical Pharmacist
1993 - He founded the German Oncology Pharmacy Conference
named NZW (Norddeutscher Zytostatika Workshop) in Hamburg.
1996 - The first issue of QuapoS was adopted by the NZW and
published
1996 – 2001 and from 2023 - Director of the Institute for
Applied Healthcare Sciences (IFAHS) in Hamburg.
1997 - First President Elect and from 1998 to 2000 President
of ISOPP (International Society of Oncology Pharmacy Practitioners)
2000 - Founding President of the ESOP (European Society of
Oncology Pharmacy).
2001 - He implemented the specialisation for “Oncology
Pharmacy” in Germany in 2001, a special post-graduated education programm about
100 hours of lectures, 2 years practical training onsite and presenting case
reports in an examination.
2001, 2004 and 2008 - He arranged meetings for improvement
of Quality, Environment, Health and patients Safety at the EU Commission in
Luxembourg
2007 – 2019 - Acting as editor-in-chief of the EJOP
(European Journal of Oncology Pharmacy).
2008 – 2012 and again from 2016 – 2020 - He acted as member
of the board of directors of European CanCer Organisation (ECCO), and
implemented the understanding of multi-professionality besides
interdisciplinarity in ECCO.
2012 - He became fellow of the European Academy of Cancer
Sciences (EACS).
2013 - He managed that ESOP became as HCPS (Health Care
Professionals) the accreditation as observer at EMA
2012/2024 - Chair of the European Conference for Oncology
Pharmacy (ECOP) in Budapest (2012), Krakow (2014), Dubrovnik (2016), Nantes
(2018),Hamburg (2020) and Lisbon (2024)
